Personal Counseling Services

CAPS Personal Counseling Services can help students with issues related to adjusting to college and other psychological, interpersonal, and family problems. Individual, couple, family, and group sessions are available.

Testing Services

Testing Services supervises the administration of national tests for undergraduate, graduate, and professional school admissions. Exams offered include the ACT, SAT, GRE, MAT, Praxis Series, MPRE, and LSAT. Testing Services also offers exam scoring and processing to KU faculty.

Faculty & Staff Consultation

CAPS staff are available to consult with faculty and staff who may have concerns about a student or about a particular situation.

Dealing With Procrastination

  • If a project feels like a mountain, take steps to make the mountain into just a hill.  Break assignments into smaller steps.  For example, if you have to do a 10 page paper, day 1 – make an outline, day 2 – find resources, day 3 – write the introduction, etc.
  • Take frequent, short breaks.  Emphasis on frequent and short.
  • Make a weekly schedule with specific times to study, eat, socialize, exercise, etc. Be sure to be realistic.  It is easier to make yourself work if you have enjoyable activities to look forward to as a reward.
  • When you make excuses to do something later, recognize your excuse for what it really is. 
  • Avoid the perfectionism trap.  Focus on getting the job done.  If you need to make improvements, you can always do so later.
